I'm not prepared to wait 6 hours for my computer to render it, so I don't think I'll help with the seeds. The stuff you have going now look great though! I'm going back and forth between 8k and 10k, I think that 10k would be great for more room and biomes, but it seems rather... Large. I'd rather not spend 10 minutes running to get to the wilderness. :(

With a 10k map it doesn't mean you HAVE to go build further from the portals? :)

Oooh True I wasnt thinking of that in my reply... Although from what I understand going back to Ray's 1st post in the 1st set of votes, he mentions 9 portal locations and that the hub location will have a full set of portals. So initially sticking closer to the hub area would be more beneficial if one didnt want to travel too far? Or am I misunderstanding the 9 portal thing?

The might be static, or they might not... Depends on the vote

Basically as of now:

The current design has 17 rail stations (8 outer, 8 inner and the center), the outer rail stations will all have either a nether or a wilderness portal (1 on each corner, 1 on each side). The inner rail stations won't have any portals at all, but those people actually have an advantage. They will be the closest to central, where *both* portals always remain, and will be only 1 rail cart ride to a portal station on the outside as well, so they have two entry points at all times. They just don't have their own portal station, so have to do a bit more traveling than the people at the outer stations.

The vote was really to see if we wanted both a wilderness and nether portal at all 8 of the outer stations, or if we only want 1 or the other. But, since the vote is heavily leaning to "one or the other" the only thing really up in the air is if they will be static (Never change) or rotating, where they swap every month.

Some great looking seeds there! Now that some detail of the transportation is emerging I'm swayed by the potentials of the larger map.

Good roads and a horse will mean fast travel too, I galloped 2000 blocks very quickly this morning ( it was a flat seed though) .... and there will be horses on all the plains, free for the taking!  Except for obtaining saddles.... mmmm  damn mojang.

Super Size me!

I agree! If it was as black and white as: 10k map OR 5k map, I'd go with 10k all the way - It just seems better suited to our communal desire to build long-term projects while maintaining room for new people. Of course it means more traveling, but pros and cons, pros and cons.

If you think about it, the real world is huge, but we made up for that by making each region basically self-sufficient. So maybe this means each part of our 10k map will have a community and personality of its own. 8(17?) little hub towns. :D (With less animals to make the server lag!)

I also plan on building as near to a portal as possible, in the snow. *Crossing fingers* that that combo is available, because I'll be in snow even if it means I'm off in Timbuktu.

For the seed, I'd like to have connected multiple bodies of water distributed throughout the map.  While obviously we don't want total oceans, lots of sizable seas make for interesting coastlines to build on, and if those seas have a water connection of some type, or close enough to build a canal, we can get around by boat as well as rail.  Perhaps not as good as rail but I find it a lot of fun and sometimes just as quick.

Like in the current map, where we have a central sea, seas to the south, north and east, all somewhat connected.  Only the whole western end of the map is a bit dry and inaccessible to water traffic.

another advantage to a 10K map - you don't have to shower or wear deodorant

Also thought I should point out, even though I'm letting the public find a seed, after careful thought I kind of want to still keep the seed private. Reason being, I want the seed to be kept secret, because using programs (like Amidst) it's super easy to cheat, and I'd rather no one have access to the seed.

I think from here on out, you should hide the seed ID when you post, and if we agree on your map, then give me and only me the seed. Then at least it limits the knowledge of the actual seed down to 2 people, and those 2 people (myself and the finder of the seed) will just agree never to use it in single player, or with any program like amidst to cheat.

^^^

This is the right way to go.

Knowing where all the dungeons, strongholds, etc. are does rather take away the exploring fun side of things
