The current design seems pretty good.  The generation rate is higher and there are fewer fall deaths.  Overall the efficiency of this grinder is nearly as good as the one from SG5.  Can we capture this design if we are going to have to rebuild each month?

I see some small issues collecting XP balls with the two block wide design, sometimes I have to walk around to collect them, but if this is what is needed to get the higher throughput that is fine.  Also I got a half heart damage once at one of the corners, but only once so far, not a big deal.

Good design!

And thanks for building it close to the spawn point!

Yeah, the design is actually pretty simple. It's docm's design, 2 blocks aren't required but it stops having to build down to avoid the old build limit. I was thinking each reset we could go up and take all of the redstone and pistons, and reuse them for the next design. :) The mats per layer: 22 sticky pistons, 10 repeaters, 12 redstone, 22 pressure plates, and a ton of blocks. There are 5 layers now, but the design is modular, and I think I'll put a donate-a-layer box at the end spawn, to add more. :D

I still dont understand why that has to be reset each month

To prevent the use of an over-powered End Grinder like we had in the previous version of SG.

Yes, the End gets reset every month - just like The Wilds.

So - we do the same thing we did before, it just takes longer?  Doesn't make a lot of sense :/

Maybe once new enchanting comes out, it won't matter so much.

Instead we'll have... an over-powered end grinder that gets dismantled and rebuilt every month!

I was reading the new enchantment scheme in 1.8 and I didn't follow why some here were saying the End grinder would no longer be useful.  Why not?  You still need to top up your XP each time. Although it will only cost 3 levels, if those 3 levels are harder to replace won't the End grinder still help?

Yes, you need to bring lapis lazuli, but that just means lugging more stuff with you to the End, and it will make mining a prerequesite for enchanting since I don't think there is a way to generate lapis from any knid of grinder, unless they add it.

What I like least from what I have read is that the naming of an item will no longer keep the repair cost from increasing.  I have found this really useful.  A named tool can stay with you forever, until you drop it lava or SG gets updated.  True it seems repairs will cost less initially, but presumably they will eventually increase in cost to the point where repairing the item is too expensive.

And doors can stack!  yeah

You'll be able to get lapis from villagers through trading.

Having played with the snapshots a little it doesn't seem like it'll be too hard to level back up after enchantments once you get your base ~30.   I haven't played with it a lot though so I'm not completely sure and could very well be completely wrong.

Yes, the logic escapes me too.  Give the people what they want.  I think if we put it to a vote a permanent high output end grinder would win over one person being able to slay the dragon each month.  But we've had this discussion before haven't we?

I thought so too, but I can't find it, and can't reason it out on my own.  If anyone can link to that disucssion here I'd appreciate it, on why we reversed what we were doing in SG5 in keeping the end grinder permanent.  I know there was a conversation about it making the game too easy and perverting it.  Yet, if everyone uses the end grinder that is built monthly, then that argument kind of falls down, and all you are left with is the pointless task of rebuilding each month.

So what I am looking for is the argument of why we should rebuild it each month, not whether we should have one at all.

A good end grinder can mitigate the disaster of a death in lava. If everything is so hard to get and maintain, it takes a lot of the fun out of the game. Should any player think that an end grinder is too easy or a cheat, then they are welcomed to avoid using it; just because some players are purists, doesnt mean that very many of us are. This is a big issue to some us that affects the playability of Minecraft. Like GT, I have been unable to find Ray's rationale against a permanent end grinder in the forums. Would some kind person please clarify?
