IGN is EP43

ABOUT ME:
My name is Dave, I am 47. I currently live in Arizona (about 20 years) and work for a globally diverse company, doing essentially data entry. I moved to AZ from Montana in '95 shortly after separating from the Air Force. I come from a big Family, my dad was in the Army so I was lucky enough to be able to see some of the world growing up. I have lived in or traveled to 20+ states and as a youngster, to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Okinawa, and later to Canada. I graduated HS in '86, no college. I worked at a hardware store for a few years, then joined the AF in '89. My wife comes from a big family as well, so that is probably why we have a big family ourselves ... and 2 cats. I do like dogs, actually love animals and have had pets all my life, but my wife and I agree, we just don't like the maintenance a dog requires.

MY INTERESTS AND HOBBIES:
I can get totally addicted to some games, though I would not call myself a gamer, that is to say I don't play a lot of different games, especially on-line games, only Minecraft. I have played console games all the way back to the original Atari, and actually Pong before that, when Pong was an entire console of its own. Sim city and Age of Empires both on PC years and years ago. But as a busy dad, I have played Halo on XBOX, a few driving games on XBOX, and Battle Field 3 online, but not all that much. But MC has me hooked, I don't even consider looking into other games, I spend more time than I should on MC as it is, so I don't spend time looking at or trying new games.

But MC came around at good time for me, 2 of my older kids had just graduated HS and moved out of the house, and I started working less hours, It all just came together. About the only thing that keeps me from spending free time on MC is NFL Football (sometimes I do both), and of course I root for the Cardinals and hate the Cowboys, 49rs, and Seahawks... in that order.

I do spend time with the family too, usually watch movies or some TV like Americas got Talent, the first 30 minutes of the Tonight show with JF (funny dude) or I might binge watch something like Sherlock (BBC), Firefly, How I Met Your Mother, The 100, most of the popular cooking shows like Iron Chef (Japan), Top Chef, Master Chef, a few others like that. Anyone remember the show Great Chefs of Chicago? I would watch that all the time when I was younger. So ya, I like to cook too, my wife doesn't and I don't like to do dishes, so it works out well. I like to watch documentaries, and some of the not so drama filled reality shows. Most recently Wicked Tuna, Life Below Zero, Gold Rush ALaska, Frontline, and TED.

THE SPEED ROUND:
Zodiac: Aries
Color: Blue
Beer: English Ale

Music: Hard Rock
Food: Baja style Mexican

Coffee/Tea: Both*

Coke/Pepsi: Coke

Cheese/No Cheese: Cheese

Chocolate/Vanilla: Chocolate
Nuts/No Nuts: Nuts

Comedy/Tragedy: Comedy

Action/Drama: Action
Bath/Shower: Shower

Pants/Shorts: Shorts

Shoes/Flip Flops: Flip Flops
Under Wear: Tagless Boxer Briefs

*I like strong coffee like Kona coffee, or Starbucks Italian and French roasts. Anymore, I drink hot coffee maybe 2 or 3 times a month and no longer drink hot tea, unless it's Green tea. But I love iced coffee and iced tea (live in Arizona).

EXPERIENCE WITH MC:
I have been playing MC off and on for almost 4 years. What got me hooked was just the building aspect. I have always had an interest in architecture, growing up I would draw out designs just for fun, was/is a huge fan of Lego, so it makes sense that a 3D digital world that I could freely build just about anything would interest me. And for whatever reason all this time, I have never tried to or cared to learn the standard redstone switches and stuff. I certainly can follow a YouTube video or just wing it to make redstone work for me. So other than simple stuff with pistons or rail, I rarely use redstone. I tend to do stuff manually, or use just water tubes or hoppers to move stuff. I do enjoy building within a community, or group builds like large bridges or a town, or help out with grinders. I might help by just collecting materials, or give some creative design input, or just do some simple slabbing of a 128x128 area while someone smarter in MC than me can build the mechanisms. Almost as much as I like building, I like mining for diamonds or just exploring the surface all over the map trying to find nice places to build or special bioms, or grinding XP to get all the enchants possible.

I am anxious to fresh start once again especially if you update to 1.9. (I read that in the forum ,is that true?) A new community, a new map, new stuff in MC, new friends ... makes me anxious to join and play.

I realize app approvals are on hold... no problem. I will check back from time to time to see if any status has changed. Thank you for taking the time to read my ramblings and possibly promoting me to the Limbo server.

TL;DR: I'm old, only game I play is MC, not a serious MC redstoner, like to help on projects/community builds. Looking forward to joining this community to transform the new map into something special.

That, sir, is a lot of information. How long did it take you to compile all this?
I suppose I'll have to step up my game if I am to compete with applications like these ^_^

No competition, and thanks for reading. I just read several times to include a lot of information on the ap so I did. Took maybe a little less than an hour.

Are you sure you aren't a Novelist, Dave?
Holy crap, I almost feel like I could invite you to my wedding.  Not a bad thing, just ... wow :D

Have you played on any other online servers with MC or mostly single player?

Man, people keep giving you crap for such a long app. Personally, I dig it. The more info, the better! Overload me with information! ;)

Definitely not a novelist, but when is the special day? I'll see what my calendar looks like. ;)

As probably most people do, I started out single player. Creating several worlds, sometimes playing creative, or peaceful mode and working up to easy. Then playing with 4 or 5 friends on a home server. This went on for several months, then for about the last 3+ years I have been playing online.

Great app! My app was info overload too, but that's a good thing in this context I think.

You say you're old, you're not old! I'm in my 40's too. :P

You sound like me- trying lots of other games but always coming back to Minecraft. This is a really nice community, I think you will like it!

I liked your app a lot too. You have lots of detailed info there and your title is quite original :)

Like you, I shared a lot of info too and felt a bit uncomfortable with that.

I don't know if 1.9 will be used--would that mean another reset? :) We just did that for 1.8? I guess the Admins can answer that question a lot better.

Also, the limbo server is no longer around. That info is outdated as well.

Hi guys! Thanks for reading and the favorable feedback.

Raymadin, I saw that on a recent forum post and assumed it was true, even though 1.9 is still a snapshot release. I thought maybe someone was being really proactive and timing this server update with the pending 1.9 release.

Soo... This question is very important.

Who is Jon Snow's Father.

Also do you like reading?

Assuming "who is Jon Snow" is the important question, my answer is, I don't know. Maybe George doesn't even know yet for sure. Though I have to admit, (had to google Jon Snow) Game of Thrones is not a show I watch ... maybe someday.

I haven't read a novel or paperback in forever. Used to read off and on before electronic media took over. So I read news, and technical documents, and such on line. And prefer to watch a movie over reading novels. 20 some years ago I would enjoy something by Carlos Casteneda, or Grisham or Demille - The Gold Coast was a good one. I saw the movie too.

I have been lurking in the shadows ;) , reading the forum updates, and looking over the map. Looks like some decent progress on SG spawn area, and several people claiming spots.

A few questions;

I read about the plan for portals, they will be a great time saver for travel at times. But I was wondering if you use /home, to /TPA, or any other way to port without those physical portals?

How do you get to from SG to SG wilds, /command or portal?

Why do people build on on SG wilds, that gets reset a few times a year right?

Is "World" the limbo map?

Hey there! I don't think I've said hi yet, but welcome to the server!

I read about the plan for portals, they will be a great time saver for travel at times. But I was wondering if you use /home, to /TPA, or any other way to port without those physical portals?

In the past, we've never used teleportation commands. It makes it still possible to get lost! :P

How do you get to from SG to SG wilds, /command or portal?

We get to the Nether, End, and Wilds by portal.

Why do people build on on SG wilds, that gets reset a few times a year right?

Though most people prefer to build on the main map, wilds builds are necessary to avoid having to make a journey every time you want to go mining (and also starting out). Some people like to make them look nice! :) I just have a hole in a wall (literally) for myself, but there are some very nice houses.

Is "World" the limbo map?

There actually isn't a limbo map anymore, that was done away with a couple years ago. Do the rules still say that? :P

Anyway, "World" (and its respective nether/end counterparts) are just test maps that haven't been removed from the dynmap list yet.

Hello Blue Dragon, and thank you for the welcome! That was a quick response, and good info. Thank you for answering my questions.

I have mostly played with being able to TP or /home, but have had some time on a pure vanilla server with no navigation cheats. It certainly makes the game a bit more engaging, and horses are actually used!

I did read that somewhere in the rules, or server info that it is the "probation" method.

I was going to post some pics of a few builds, I can't make an album in the gallery. Is the only way to do that is to save the pics online and then save here from a URL?

Yeah, the "limbo" period still lasts a month. Just no separate map.

Unfortunately images can't be uploaded here, so you'll have to do exactly that. I recommend imgur!

Okay here is a few. After going through the castles and medeival building phase early on, I started building more for utility and function. So builds might look modern, or other wordly at times.

Like this one;

Main Base, Storage, Farms, etc.

Cw5nrufs.jpg  GQ6TstJs.jpg  uVld6xAs.jpg

and another more recent (but unfinished);

Modern Arcopolis. Which would be a self contained small city if I ever get it finished.

LSITd9xs.jpg wMpcJzfs.jpg Tig9AEVs.jpg

My 2 most recent builds were actual houses, I  am just not all that creative with the interiors. And my lighting needs work;

The Vineyards. I built and tore down the top of that tower at least 3 times. Need some inspiration to get back to it.

cG8Ey22s.jpg jKaP9cDs.jpg cemVswps.jpg 6IDTuQos.jpg

This was a reclamation project where we filled a big ugly area of the map, where people had been digging a large area of sand. The idea was to built opulent estate houses.... even though most of us would never really "live" there in game.
