Well, time to retire! (SG6 Download inside!)

03 July 2015 - 10:49 PM

SixtyGig, as I know it at least, has been shut down. You can now access the entire server, all the maps, all the plugins right here:

http://sixtygig.com/...g-SG6-Final.rar

Stacy is working overtime to bring back the server though, so don't fret, SixtyGig isn't dead yet!

But I do have one more promotion to hand out before I retire; For the first time in over 4 years of SixtyGig's life span, I am promoting a veteran . . . to admin!

Congrats Stacy!

I'll still be floating around on the forums, I'm not going anywhere, so this isn't goodbye. But, it is good luck!

Have fun everyone. I had a great ride, made many lifelong friends, and am proud to have had the honor to run what I consider one of the best, most mature Minecraft servers ever created.

The End of an Era.

22 June 2015 - 12:45 AM

Greetings everyone,

As most of you have probably noticed, I haven't really been around much at all lately. I've been spending a large amount of time moving into my new house, going to school and working on Retro-Pixel Castles.

Between buying my new house (that is requiring a complete remodel), attending college and working on Retro-Pixel Castles I just have no time to keep up with the server anymore. Used to it was actually fine. The server is pretty self moderating and easy to maintain, and I had a ton of help from Stacy, Rosleen, Oribloke, the other Veterans and many others over the years. But since the bukkit "issue" I've reached to an impasse. I don't have the time to relearn everything and put together a new spigot server, my livelihood now relies on Retro-Pixel Castles' income so I simply can't ignore it, and sadly, the free time I invest not working on RPC is focused on working on my new home. There's just no space for SixtyGig anymore.

I love this community, and I will certainly regret what I am about to do. But I think it's time to finally, and officially, shut the doors of the server. I'll keep the server running for the remainder of this month, and then I will offer the entire server, the maps and everything as one large downloadable package. I will even do my best to include all the old maps from SG1 through SG5.

But, this doesn't mean the community has to die! I will keep SixtyGig's forums running as long as people are here to post, and if you guys want to organize it, you have full permission to use the server download I will post later this month to host a SixtyGig yourself or simply just keep the map for your own adventures.

I'll still be here on the forums, and you're all welcome to contact me here, add me on Steam or on shoot me a PM at the Retro-Pixel Castles' official website.

To every SixtyGigger, both new and old, it's been a great 4 years! SixtyGig has been one of the most amazing communities I've ever been a part of, and I will miss its glory days.

Status of SixtyGig; and Minecraft 1.8. What to do?

01 May 2015 - 12:43 PM

As many of you stated, the server needs to upgrade. The problem is, I simply can't easily upgrade using our current host, and if we do upgrade there is a very likely chance we may lose many critical plugins. So I believe now is the time to discuss our options.

Option 1, try to move to Spigot and cross our fingers:

If we move away from Bukkit (Pretty much inevitable) we'll probably switch to Spigot. But sadly, not all Bukkit plugins work with Spigot and Spigot itself has very limited plugin support, and to double up on that problem my host actually does not support the latest version of Spigot. In order to get it installed, I'd have to manually compile it and deliver it to my host in hopes he has the technical knowledge to get it working on his end. It's a messy solution, but with the best possible outcome.

Option 2, Vanilla MC and screw all this fancy plugin crap!:

Switching to Vanilla 1.8 would be easy (in fact, we could even keep the map with little issue) but obviously that would mean losing all our plugins including our chat colors, wilderness, portals, dynmap, etc. We'd always be able to safely and easily run the latest version of MC though.

Option 3, self hosting;

I can reinvest the monthly payments to my host and put them into upgrading my internet at home, and put the server on a local computer. This will allow me to install Spigot, and basically do whatever I want. But, even the upgraded internet might not be as fast as what we have currently. But even at our largest, we've never been a "huge" server, even a standard home cable internet connection is good enough for what we have now.

Option 4, sit on Bukkit 1.7 a little longer and hope somehow, someway, Bukkit 1.8 happens:

Probably not the best option, but hey, it's still an option I guess?

Option 5:

??

Anyways, this isn't really a poll. The options are just ideas I have. Feel free to let me know what ideas you support, and what you're willing to risk and provide your own input into other possible options. ;)

New Portal System - Feb 6th - GET CRACKIN

30 January 2015 - 04:36 PM

After the lengthy discussion in the SG dev forum, we're putting back in SG5(ish) style portals. But in order to do it you guys will need to build proper portal rooms for everything.

We're going with Dragon's design;

qpooOjr.png

What's going to happen:

- All the Wild/Nether portals will be removed except Central's

- The End will no longer be reset.

- The Wild/Nether will be reset BY REQUEST. (Vets will ask me when they feel it's time). Rather than every month, 2 months, 3 months, or whatever. I'll just reset it when you guys feel like it should be. We'll need a two week warning though so people can get their stuff out.

What needs done:

1. Portal locations need to be added for all the red dots.

2. Central (Center of the city) needs portals to accommodate.

3. After the reset, someone needs to go destroy the old portal rooms for the Wilderness/Nethers.
