#39675 The End of an Era.

Posted by IryshWhiskey on 22 June 2015 - 05:26 PM

Ray, you're amazing! Thank you so much for helping to create one of the few comforts a lonely military wife has. I'd have been lost without you guys, and the many fun nights, hangouts and laughs I've enjoyed over the years.

I'm sure someone will continue on the SixtyGig legacy, and hopefully it continues to be the best mature MC server around!

<3 you guys.

#39436 Iry Attempts to Play Minecraft

Posted by IryshWhiskey on 27 May 2015 - 04:41 PM

I didn't think screenshots would do my mediocre builds justice. So I made a video! This is what I've made so far in the last 3 weeks. :D Enjoy!

#39091 Status of SixtyGig; and Minecraft 1.8. What to do?

Posted by IryshWhiskey on 02 May 2015 - 08:54 PM

1. I spent a lil' while playing with a few friends on a small server and had a fantastic time building portals in the Nether to everyone's over-world bases. The Nether is 1/8th the size of the over-world, so it takes substantially less time to get from point A to B. We were running pure Vanilla and it didn't even feel bad because it was super fun to explore in the over-world with some flint and obsidian, find a really cool place (like a mesa area), build the portal, enter Nether, and connect that portal to the main hub in the Nether. I know 60G would make something friggen amazing in the Nether IF it came down to ghetto portals.

-Ex. I (being Iry) went like a million blocks away from everyone. It took about an hour to get to my place from base through terrain and whatnot. Using the Nether portal system, it took 3 minutes. Plus it was a really amazing group activity because building in the Nether is rough!

2. Reading all of this makes #2 with a twist sound kind of nice. Basically back to basics with a few mods we have learned Spigot provides and a few vanilla tweaks (creepers no-boom, etc). Why doesn't your current host allow Spigot? Can we help pay to switch to a more Minecraft friendly host?

#24293 The initial plan for SG6

Posted by IryshWhiskey on 07 November 2013 - 08:40 AM

Man! Oh man! That video made me soooo excited! I can't believe I am lucky enough to have ample free time around the time we get started. At least, I hope we start as early as December? Meh, even if we don't, I'm so happy to be able to help make this awesome place a "reality."

@Fore: Maybe a viewing place? Since I bet there is a great view from the top of that arch mountain.

Edit: SNOW!!!!!!

#23794 Moving Forward With SG6: Third Set of Votes *and* "The Great Seed Search...

Posted by IryshWhiskey on 23 October 2013 - 11:11 AM

The issue with that gorgeous seed is that there is not much snow, and I know I am not the only one who would like a snow biome. (At least I think I am not?) I think at least 3 of us want to build in snow and a larger map means we can more easily claim an entire biome as our own.

In that scenario of entire biome claiming, that there might not be enough snow. But if it is, I call the one in the middle!!!!

#23769 Moving Forward With SG6: Second Set of Votes

Posted by IryshWhiskey on 23 October 2013 - 08:28 AM

I love the idea of a larger map because there are more of us (in theory - even though we have been absent for a bit). If things continue the way they have been, we will be inviting an average of 5+ people each month. I am not sure what the desired max population is, but I think 5k blocks is not large enough for us to have a forever home on.

I think 8-10k is definitely a better option, but as I stated on the last vote: I'm worried it will ruin the community aspect.

Had we known we might have the choice of a larger map, we (I) might have voted differently? Having quadrants like in SG5 with portals that take you to a hub location seems like a wonderful idea if the map is going to be huge.

Of course in real life we don't have portals, if we want to visit a friend who is 10k miles away, we take a plane and spend a ton of money and take time off work and ****.

But this is a game. I believe survival mode is hard enough without having to trek across a ton of blocks to get anywhere or spend most of my precious time on a train.

Why not have the same portal idea, but add more so they can be closer together on a large map?

TLDR; I DO want a larger map. I DO NOT want to travel by train most of my life. I think we should have more portals if we are going for a larger map.

#23311 Moving Forward With SG6: First Set of Votes

Posted by IryshWhiskey on 07 October 2013 - 09:28 AM

I agree that having a hub location was super great. If we don't have a hub then we will all be off in our own little areas doing our own thing, always. There would be no real reason to randomly run in to someone somewhere. I really liked knowing that I could run in to any number of people while at my hub house or porting in to go to the Nether/Wilderness.

Though I am fond of plan 2, I'd highly recommend we find a reason for a hub still. I know that a public farm idea sounds romantic, but eventually no one will use it. So we should put our heads together and come up with a real reason to run in to one another, or we may never see each other again.
