Topics I've Started

inlakesh says hi!

09 September 2011 - 07:00 PM

Thought I'd do a proper introduction. Keeping it short. Or trying to.

So, my name is Thomas, 23 years of age, live in The Netherlands and I work as a cook. I'm looking for a new place, whilst currently(and hopefully not too long) residing with my mother. Waiting lists for affordable rental housing are insane at the moment. Especially in Amsterdam, where I work and therefore want to live(again).
Public transport is ok-ish, but I end up spending a lot of my free time at my mother's. So yeah, I play a lot of MC at the moment. It's awesome though, and I'm having a blast doing so.

I've been online nearly every day since I arrived in Limbo getting my MC fix. I've gotten to have a chat with a couple of you. Relaxed atmosphere, from what I can tell so far. Still feels a bit formal, but that's natural when you just get to know people. Some of the more active players seem to be very proactive builders and I can't wait to see their creations! Although it takes some patience, I'm excited for 1.8 and eventually 1.9 and getting to help build a new world with dedicated players. I haven't really been in any big projects so in the beginning I'll be happy just gathering resources and doing simple stuff.

I'm not a very experienced builder, but I like trying different things, trying to get a bit of a signature look going. Still exploring possibilities. I'm also not shy of having to do a lot more work for a bit more detail. I usually go for a kind of natural look. what I build has to fit in the environment. I'm usually not really interested in pixel-art and that kinda stuff, but I want to have some giant eggs sunny-side up someday. In a pan, probably. Oh well.

See you guys around!

Motivation:
Hey! My name is Thomas, I work as a cook, and I've fallen in love with the beautiful game that is Minecraft. Before about six months ago I didn't play videogames all that much anymore, but the MC hype got me curious.
At first it was just like playing with Lego's again. Make anything you want with a huge set of blocks, amazing! After getting used to the crafting through recipes, making tools and materials etc I got curious about the multiplayer. Several videos showed me the potential of what can be made through teamwork and creativity. I hád to try it.

I joined a big server that welcomed practically anyone(the more, the merrier right?). Man, how disappointed I was. Having neighbors seemed great. Help each other out a little, have a chat every now and then. This is what having neighbors on servers like that actually means: pieces of your home going missing, living next to giant cobblestone cubes and/or having a house built next to yours to have it abandoned the next day. :( So you end up with your home some 3000 blocks from the nearest neighbor playing a single-player game with in the background kids giving their insight on life's big questions whilst sharing how epic their new cobblestone cube is(CHECK IT OUT I MADE A TOWER OH WAIT MY DAD NEEDS TO GO ON). Then I tried some smaller servers, like one that just started fresh. But no luck, none could provide the experience that MC certainly can deliver, so I went on with the search...

In the end the applicants here probably generally have the same reasons for eventually finding this place. I'm just looking for a friendly place, where I can work my creativity, sharing it, maybe even do some projects together and hopefully have a decent conversation once in a while. Is that so much to ask for?
