Possible Cookie Arena?

13 December 2012 - 01:37 PM

So as I mentioned before I have abandoned mineshafts running under my island that I'd like to turn into a sorta arena event thingie. They run under and to the west, after following a few of them and lighting them up I ended up pretty much way west of my island, oops. It looks like they connect with more and go for hundreds of blocks. I'd like to limit to the arena to just east of my island on the little half rainforest island to my west.

I'm standing on my western 'border' in this image.

I do not see any claims on this island and I'm pretty sure it was left alone by my neighbour, but I'd like to know if anyone else wanted it or has interest in it. I'd want not to claim this for myself, but as a public town and arena for fun and events. Which also means anyone who wants to help is welcome too, and are welcome to setup buildings on that island. The arena would be underground using some of the existing tunnels and building new ones.

There are also a lot of spawners located from where I am west. I think I lit up about 11. Three are in my basement, two which work as my grinder (and if you want to use it, you can ask, but don't be trompin' on my flowers uninvited!) The other a zombie which I wanted for carrots and potatoes, but is setup as a working grinder as well. Because of the high amount of spawners I need to make sure that they are singles near or in the arena area. Singles can add difficulty to the event, but are pretty useless for xp grinds.

The rules of the arena would be simple, don't break it. As for using it, anyone can. Expanding it or modifying it is allowed in my opinion as well. Host your own events, or join in for the ones I plan to host.

Any questions or objections? Ideally I'd like to turn that little island into a little mini town, trade post, event thingie.

Island of Spidery Doom

So as some of you know my island will feature most of my farm stuff underground. This one, saves on space, and two makes it so I can keep my island my little tree fort paradise. This is also why you don't see much being build there as it's all under ground. Because I built everything underground to start I assumed I'd hit some cave systems, but I didn't till I hit 'rock' bottom for my animal section and stumbled on a zombie spawner, then a mineshaft, and in all 7 spawners. Three of which are located pretty much under or in the 'neutral' border around my island, only two are close enough for grinding. So after working hard on my cave spider grinder, it's now working. I had to try several lift designs because cave spiders track and finally this one worked out really well.

It doesn't look that pretty, I shall begin to beautify it now... but I did rebuild the lift system three times and fiddled with it constantly to make sure the spiders flowed well and up and dropped. And they do! Very well. I'm very pleased.

Now I just have to finish my farm, my island, fix up the rest of the mine shaft and make it look natural. Maybe hide stuff down there for presents for visitors, like dispensers with arrows to the face (I kid... more like cookies... lots of cookies)

I must be stupid or something...

30 July 2012 - 02:44 PM

A friend of mine picked up Endless Space for me on steam since I do like to play 4x games ("explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate") I love to make giant empires, the recent games I've been playing are Civ5 and Sins of the Solar. I get along fine with both. I tend to expand fast, bunker down slowly push my enemy out. Now on to why I'm stupid. I was told Endless Space would have a high learning curve and despite the fact I play the genre a lot, I put the game to newbie and did the tutorial. Seems straight forward, so I fiddle around and get smushed by the AI who has three or four times the fleet than I. Whatever, first time, I'll do better... and the following happens...

Game 1 - War is declared, my fleets is wiped out. I had a small fleet, so it's okay.
Game 2 - Build more army, expand, check score... me 8.4k ... computer 16.9k Well not fixing that gap, try again.
Game 3 - Try again, build faster, get a good system going, decent fleet, 86% 'happiness' things are going fast, get swamped by three times the fleet again... die.
Game 4 - Check score 2.4k to 3.6k... better... war is declared, my fleets get wiped out. Doh!
... research and play a few games slowly to test out a few things...
Game 8 - Okay, gone through the wiki, forums, and FAQ let's try this! Be very careful with all my research and building carefully planning it out... make an small army, push research to improve 'happiness'... check the map... computer has 12 planets and half the universe, I have 4... *nerd rage and quit*

Yeah I swear, I don't know what it is about this game... Either I'm retarded, or what, but most people playing it don't seem to have the issues I am. I guess I'm kinda a casual 4x player? Or just terrible. I even spent a long time going through the forums, reading the FAQs, the wiki, and doing the tutorial again. Still no go. I've never had such difficulty getting the swing of a game as this one. I feel so terrible because it's a gift and this point I'd rather not touch it for a while(If ever at this point.)

Now that I feel stupid... *goes back Civ5 and SoS ... creates massive empires, smashes things, feels better*

Building Plans in 4.0

28 March 2012 - 07:22 AM

Since we've had a lot of free time to wander around, I've been playing on the mountain map I posted for Garrik in creative(I was using an older map before that, but I just realized I deleted it and all my practice houses with it, DOH), playing a little, building things and experimenting. I built the high sky trap to see if it works, I played with a few housing designs, I started work on tree houses. Here's a few things I'd be working on.

Sky trap grinder (Keep in mind these might not be allowed in 4.0 because of the ease of building them) The are beyond ugly and yucky, but I wonder if they could be incorporated into a tower design, which would require a lot more build time and make them more attractive. The great dungeon tower, Do Ooo Ooo! Hmm, I think I might play and see if I can build one.

A box house, which looks far more interesting from above then looking at it from the side.

And my second design for a tree fort

So I ask, have you built anything interesting waiting for the 4.0 move?
