About Me

What can I say? long time gamer, starting back on the NES. I'm pretty sure I had an Artari 5600 before then, but I was pretty young. from there it was SNES > Apple II computer > Playstation > PS2 > Xbox > Xbox 360, with various handhelds and other systems thrown in for good measure. From age 17 to current day I have played many different online games. One of my favorites was Runescape, where I was involved with a great group of players and eventually took over as "leader." It was a blast being in a large group of active players! Sadly I had to give up playing any sort of subscription online games a few years ago due to life. My family moved to NC and opened a business that I now manage. It's a great job and I'm lucky to have it, but it also takes up most of my life 6 days a week. anyways, thats my gaming history in a nutshell. I have a bit of an addictive personality, so I try not to let one thing take up to much of my time (like gaming). I'm going to attempt to moderate my time on Minecraft, but still be involved with everyone in-game and on the forums. I love making new friends, even if it's thru something impersonal like an online game!

Pistons

So with the new update coming out (yay more "features" less core gameplay fixes!) I wanted to get a head start on the new piston block.

I'm sure y'all are a little more creative then me when it comes to this kind of stuff, so I wanted to see if you had any ideas how to utilize the new item.

The thing I'm most excited to use it for is retractable bridges.

I've got some friends in town this week, and next week I'll be road trippin' it to Michigan. That being said I won't be on a whole lot the next couple weeks. But I'll be back early June! Don't be deleting my buildings!

So yeah, I neglected to check my exact spawn point when I started doing some portal beautification... shortly after I died and now spawn inside a block. smooth. anyway, I don't know how to fix this myself. if anyone can help that would be great. oh, and I don't suggest using the portal to my zone atm.

Connected rail system?

I heard a couple members in game (I think it was Noz and Eryng) talking about connecting their rail systems together, and I thought it would be cool to take it one step further and have all the occupied zones connected by a single rail system. With the 1.5 update we now have powered rails that will push a cart (with a rider in it) about 25 blocks on a flat surface. There is also a video about how to make a 3-way intersection where you just hit a button to decide what direction you want to go. At each intersection you would have signs above the buttons explaining where that track goes. Each member would be responsible for building the rail in their own zone, so you could decide what you want the rider to see (personally I think it would be fun to have the rail in my zone go thru my castle).

Anyway, just thought I would put the idea out there. It would be cool to get in a cart in my zone and ride to any zone without ever having to get out of the cart, and it would feel more realistic then teleporting. I have yet to start mining so I am very poor and it would take me a while to get the gold for the powered rails, but it can be done!

hello everyone! I'm a new member to sixtygig that you'll hopefully see online semi-regularly.

My real name is Jon, but I usually just go by "Pope." I manage a coffee shop in the Asheville area and plan on going back to the college life next year. I've played MMO games on and off for the last 6 years or so, and have been apart of/started several online communities. Sadly I don't have much free time to devote to games, but what little time I do have is currently spent on Minecraft. I was really into Lego's when I was a kid, and pretty sure there is a box in my garage somewhere with my old collections. MC is a great way to let loose my inner kid (without the hours of picking up stray lego pieces when I'm done!). Anyway, I'll be around mostly on weekday nights after work. I look forward to getting to know everyone and seeing your creations in person.
