Holeychao's Application

Dear Sixty Gig members,

Hello all. My IGN is Holeychao, pronounced "holy cow". I've had this username since my first forays into the internet back in the mid '90s. I'm 39 years old and live in Phoenix, Arizona, USA.

My 9 year old daughter introduced me to Minecraft this past December. After seeing it only once I realized how much I would enjoy playing and immediately purchased my own account. Not too long after I created a server on my Macbook for my daughter and I. We've been playing in our world ever since, and have also recruited my sister in NYC and one of my daughter's classmates. Our server now has four residents. I run and maintain the server, which as of Thursday has been a pain as the 1.2.3 update is messing up our world.

I found Sixty Gig after my daughter showed interest in having an economy in our world. I did some online research and came across your economy values. From there I explored the website and found it to be the kind of environment and community I'd love to be a part of. I thoroughly enjoy playing with my family, but would also love to contribute to a larger community of mature individuals. I've been following the events and threads on here since January. The February building contest was an awesome idea. Here are a few pics of some of my work.

This is my home at our village. I've got the sheep pens and sell colored wool at one of our stores in the village. I've also got a cobblestone generator in my courtyard, the idea for which I got from a youtube tutorial and modified to fit my needs. I plan on extending the tower upwards. Need more storage room.

Our village greenhouse. This was my initial experiment with an automatic farm. I haven't dedicated much time to learning redstone circuitry, but fortunately I have enough curiosity and intelligence to get by.

Here's our terraced farm and Communal House. Built through trial and error, the terraced farm took me a few tries to get right. It relies on gravity and water mechanics to harvest mass quantities of wheat with the simple release of two water blocks.

Another view of the Communal House. Originally the communal house had two little rooms and a basement. Since then I expanded and built this. There's an ample basement for our storage. the first floor has a large foyer, dining hall, kitchen, patio, storage room, and bathroom. Second floor has the small garden and terrace, four bedrooms, and bathroom with working shower. Each bedroom has color wool carpeting and is set up to accommodate one guest.

Our village. The Netherbrick structure is mine also, a simple Enchanting Hall. The house on the lower right, with the Mushroom house atop, is my daughter's home.

Finally, my Northern Temples. This is my little pet project, far north of our village. I've got a tower with a secret entrance to the temples. On the right is a moon temple, thus the light sandstone and open roof. The structure with the colored wool is my open air bedroom. On the left is the Nether Portal Temple, which is under construction. Once completed it will be lit by hanging glowstone lamps, with the portal poised atop two tiers of colored wool in the center. To the right and back will be a tower leading to an enchanting room.

Everything I have shown you has been created on survival mode. We like to play vanilla Minecraft with minimal use of creative mode, although my daughter has a plot of land fenced off where she can use creative mode to her heart's content. I sketch out and plan most of my work, but still have to rely a bit on trial and error to get things the way I want them to look.

Well, I think that's enough. I hope to get all the votes/vouches I need. Thanks for your time.

I can't wait to begin contributing to the world of Sixty Gig.

Sincerely,

Holeychao
